Thinking it may be time for a new HVAC system in your home? While a meeting with an HVAC contractor is the only way to know for sure, here are some signs and symptoms to keep an eye out for. If you notice any of the following in your situation, be sure to schedule an appointment with an HVAC company as soon as possible.
Ineffective Heating & Cooling
Does it seem like your home just doesn’t get as toasty or as cool as it used to? Do you find yourself turning the thermostat to more extreme temperatures in order to achieve the same effect? Do the humidity levels in your home seem off? These might be signs that your HVAC system is on its last leg.
Rising HVAC Costs
You’re likely to take notice if your monthly utility bill is growing each month, but also keep tabs on how much you’ve been spending on repairs. Your HVAC tech should alert you when a unit is nearing the end of its life, but keep notes just in case. Continuous repairs could mean it’s time to start thinking about a replacement.
Your HVAC System is Over 10 Years Old
According to the Department of Energy, HVAC systems should be replaced every 10-15 years. If your system is in this age range and showing signs of poor performance, it’s time to consider an upgrade. However, with consistent maintenance they can last longer. We recently replaced a 20-year-old furnace for one of our clients.
Poor Air Quality
As time goes on, your HVAC system may lose its ability to filter out pollen, mildew, dust, and other allergens. Air filters and ductwork may become faulty as they age, pushing these unhealthy elements into the air your family breathes. Try to take notice of dust in your home as well as allergy symptoms in family members.
